Trash the Dress!

A gallery of extraordinary brides. (It’s about creation, not destruction)

Welcome to Trash the Dress September 26, 2006

Go ahead, you know you want to.  Trash it.  Get it dirty.  Get it wet.  Roll around in the mud.  Drench it in the ocean.  Totally trash it.

Why?  …  Why not?   You’ve made a commitment to your husband.  He’s your one and only.  You’ll never need it again.  Trust me, your daughter won’t wear it in 20-30 years.  So you have two choices:

1)  Suffocate it in plastic and throw it in a closet

2)  Show your husband how commited you are by trashing the dress, and get some great fun pictures while you do it!

Then after you do it-   send the pictures to us to publish for all the world to see.  What are you waiting on?  Call one of the trusted photographers on this page or find one you trust and go trash the dress!

  1. These are great images Mark!!!!

Is this only a site for professionals – or can anyone join in here?

The pictures here are beautiful, but there’s nothing I can see that a dry-clean wouldn’t restore. Does anyone go in for more serious dress trashing?

  3. mark eric Says:

Hi Fiona- I would love to see a total trashing. I haven’t had a bride do anything that dry cleaning can’t handle, but if a bride is willing to go that far, I would love to shoot it!

Anyone can join in, we just want to spotlight the “extraordinary” brides, and hook up those brides with photographers (and videographers) who love documenting the “extraordinary.” Comments are welcome from anyone- and if you have pictures to share, send them to me… mark@markeric.net

    Thanks for writing!

  4. Ed Says:

Hopefully, you’ll get one eventually. At least you’ve got brides who are prepared to risk the dress, even if they don’t want to deliberately ruin it.

Quita a few brides sell their dresses on Ebay soon after the wedding. They frequently only get a tiny percentage of the cost price (less than the cleaning bill?). Maybe you should work on those brides? They may not mind totally destroying the dress if they know they’ll get great pics. At least they’ll know nobody else will wear it! Show them having fun, go paintballing, hiking or whatever. You can be a lot more flexible if you know the dress is completey “disposable” – look at altf’s flaming bride!

    Great idea Ed-

I love JMC’s work- maybe we can get him to share some of his magic on here!

  6. mark eric Says:

Great news- I just received an e-mail from John Michael Cooper- the godfather of dress trashing- He’s going to post some of his stuff on here… can’t wait.! Check out his website- http://www.altf.com

  7. I admire the work of JMC too!!!

  8. Krystal Says:

As a bride-to-be, I am absolutely loving the idea of “trashing my dress”. I love all these shots – they are so well done. Wish I had a photographer in my area willing to do this sort of thing!

  9. mark eric Says:

Great Krsytal, hope you find someone. Most photographers that I know would love the opportunity to shoot a TTD. Shoot me an e-mail, I know several photographers nationwide. Maybe I can hook you up with one.

Is it truly trashed or can drycleaning take care of most of it? Beautiful pictures. I wonder if any of my brides will ever go that extreme?

  11. June Says:

What a fabulous idea! I love all of these and, just having returned from our honeymoon, would love to do this to my own dress–but due to our latitude (Seattle) and the season (January) it might have to wait until summer.

However, I’d love to do a “full trashing” involving grass, sand, mud, paint, food/wine or whatever (drawing the line at manure of course)! My dress is ivory georgette silk and I was going to “donate it” to trash it anyway…

  12. markeric Says:

My kind of bride! Thanks June- I hope you get the opportunity- I would have to draw the line at manure as well. :) Be sure to send the pics to us.

  13. Kim Nodurft Says:

Excellent idea for a site! I do this with my brides and just love it. I’ll put some images together and submit them soon. We will be shooting in Paris this summer and I’ll send those in when I get home. Plan on really trashing that dress!

  14. Sanne Says:

I love these pictures. I think it must be fun to do these sessions. I live in the Netherlands and i don’t know if this would be possible here.
Next year i am going to get married and i always phantasized do things like this.
And you overthere just do it. Wow!!!!!!!
I would pay to have a wet wedding-photoshoot or maybe even muddy………..

  15. Ted Gibson Says:

Love the pictures! I’ve been doing similar “girls ‘n water” work for years and discovered early-on that the girls just LOVE the idea of dressing up nicely and getting soaking wet and/or muddy!
My only suggestion would be for the girls to also wear hose and dressy heels with their gowns… This would emphasize the spontaneity shown in many of these images.
Keep up the good work everyone!

  16. Kate Says:

What a great site! I’m doing a session like this next week and can’t wait to see how it turns out. Such beautiful images here!

  17. Michelle Says:

Is this an association you need to belong to in order to “Trash The Dress”? Do you have to belong here to use the “Trash The Dress” theme and to post them? Or is there a contact that we get a hold of to submit images?
    Michelle

  18. markeric Says:

    Hi Michelle-

Right now, it’s just a fun site. We take submissions, and post images that we feel portray quality, artistic work that displays the TTD philosophy. If you would like to submit some pictures, shoot them to mark@markeric.net, we’ll have a look.

We are currently weighing our options on the future of the site, input is welcome.

  19. Nina Says:

Why has no one done the paint ball thing??? That is what I want to do with mine!!!
