Nicole Writes:

Sandy and Allen decided to do a session in their wedding clothes at Eastern State Penitentiary. I have only been to ESP for their Halloween haunted house, so I was really excited to see what it looks like without all the props and people…oh, and also during daylight. If you have never been there, the place is kind of creepy, but it has a beautiful aesthetic and tons of texture to work with. Tell me what you think!

    What a great location.

This is a very interesting and evocative site. What kinds of permissions are required to shoot, perform or create there?

  4. Chris Says:

    Very, very cool!

    Thanks for the compliments!

You need to make a reservation. I believe the fee was $200 for 2 hours. This money goes towards keeping the site standing, as it is considered a ruin. You also have the option to shoot during the time it is open to the public or just after hours. I think their is some more info on ESP’s site as well. We shot after it closed to the public, which worked great for me.

What an artist you are! Could you possibly tell me which filter you have used for the effects? Trying to find something on the internet but no luck, don’t know what to look for (not big here yet…)

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Mette,
All the effects were done in Photoshop. It is a combo of skewing the color and layering both my own textures and ones I bought from Jesh de Rox. He has a great set and tutorial to show how he does it. Once you get the idea of what to do, you just have to play around with it, but I’ll warn you- you could lose many hours of your life experimenting!

Wow that is just really beautiful. How are u able to shoot in old buildings like that? Do you need a permit or something? I’d really like to have my wedding photos look that those!
