New Pages Now, New WEBSITE very soon! January 21, 2008

Filed under: Behind the Scenes — markeric @ 7:52 am

Hey everyone,

We want to thank everyone who visits TTD. This week, we’ve added three new pages to the tabs at the top. We want to show off more than just TTD photos- so check out “Engagements”, “Weddings”, and “Unbridaled Art” at the top of the blog. Soon- they will be filled with other amazing images from members of our referral listing. For now, they contain a few of my images, just for testing purposes. As soon as we receive more submissions, we will post those so you won’t be stuck looking at my work. (Photographers on our referral list, please read the instructions on each page to find out how to submit your favorite images)

This will give us the opportunity to display the amazing work being put out by today’s top wedding photographers. It will also give our reader’s a chance to see that wedding photography just isn’t what it used to be. Today’s wedding photographers and videographers refuse to be boxed in by labels such as “Traditional”, or even the misguided term “Photojournalist”. Today, it’s about capturing- and creating. Today’s visual artists believe that couples should have detailed documentary coverage of their wedding, as well as an artistic illustration that captures their story- through engagements, wedding day coverage, artistic bridal portraits, day after sessions, and yes- even a trash the dress session for the most daring of brides.

In addition to the new pages, I will be working on populating our new website with information this week- so the new Trash The Dress website should be launching very soon- so be on the look out!

Update – Wieblab January 17, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason Domingues @ 5:00 pm

Hey guys,

I just ripped this off the Wiebners lab “wieblab” It looks like they are having a very special guest! Take a look!

>

>
Hot news! We’ve just added a guest Speaker!

I got a phone call yesterday from our friend John Michael Cooper of AltF. He let us know that He and Dalisa be will crashing the Wieblab workshop. Of course we are pumped to have them as guests at our workshop, and I know that all of the attendees will benefit from John’s very unique vision of wedding photography. If you are not familiar with JMC you need to go check out his site. He has done some of the most original wedding portraits that I have ever seen. In fact, John’s work was a major inspiration for us when we decided that we were going to stop fitting the mold.

This is gonna be sweet :)

Check out John’s site for some inspiration – Alt-F

OBTW, The model for this image is completely unharmed and one of our favorite pets. Violet (or Vile-let) is our first and most love-y ratkin. We’d never, ever, never do anything that would put her in harm’s way.

Featuring Jasmine Star January 17, 2008

It is my honor to present to you our first featured photographer for 2008 -Jasmine Star!  Awesome way to start the year, don’t you think?

If you’ve read Jasmine’s blog, you can see that her genuineness, humbleness and kind heart pours out every sentence she types.  She has a way of expressing herself that can only come straight from the heart.  Not only is she an amazing writer, she is a phenomenal photographer.  With every image she posts on her blog I “oooh” and “aaah.”  I think many can relate with me :)   Her photography is fresh and her style unique.  With the mixture of out of this world photography and writing that has you asking for more, her blog is the best place to get a taste of who Jasmine is :)

Jasmine’s career has been on the fast track since day one and I can totally understand why.  Her talent is undeniable and her kindness and openness is visible to anyone who knows her.  I know the future holds many more great experiences for Jasmine, which are well deserved.

When I was trying to put my feature together, I had a hard time explaining who Jasmine is.  Why? Well, she is not only an exceptional photographer, but most importantly, she is an extraordinary person.  You can find many amazing photographers, but Jasmine’s sweetness and down-to-earth personality is one of a kind.

Don’t take my word for it, though!  See for yourself!

Where do you live?
Orange County, California

How long have you been shooting?
Professionally, one and a half years

Favorite place to shoot?
A place I’ve never photographed before…I always love the challenge of finding new
spots!  :)

How would you describe your style?
Love in a Series of Photographs

Best part of being a wedding photographer?
I’m constantly surrounded by joyful, smiling people on the happiest day of their
lives…talk about job perks!  :)

Would you trash your dress?
YES!!  I’ve ‘trashed’ it already four or five times!
Here is a an image from the shoot:

What advice do you have for future brides?
Don’t forget to take a moment on your wedding day and soak it all–the day, the smells,
the sounds–in.  Stand off in a corner with your new husband and try hard to memorize the
feeling of being on top of the world!

What advice do you have for other photographers?
Think Different.

I have never…
Smoked a cigarette

I’m looking forward…
Spend my free weekends with my friends and family!

I would like to meet…
Oprah.  Definitely, Oprah.

I’m addicted to…
Reality television.  I know… I know…I’m pathetic!

Why/How did you decide to go into photography?
After I saw what my own wedding photographer produced on my wedding
day–http://davidjay.com–I was completely and utterly inspired to quit law school and
pursue my photography passion.  It seems like it’s working out for me!  ;)

How do you balance life and work?
It’s difficult, but–thankfully–my husband always reminds me to keep priorities
straight: God, Family, Work.  My mother once told me to Never Let the Urgent Supersede
the Important, and I’ve lived by that ever since.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?
Dividing my time between Orange County and Santa Barbara…still photographing…and
writing professionally.

Who do you admire?
My dad.  He immigrated to this country with literally nothing but a duffle bag of
clothes, and has become a beacon of strength of a bourgeoning family.  He’s amazing and
nothing short of perfection!

If there was a famous couple that you could photograph a “trash the dress” session with, who would it be?
Oh, this is too easy: Beckham and Posh  :)

What is your favorite time of day?
The moment before I fall asleep in the arms of my husband…I like feeling his soft
breath on my forehead and the warmth of hands on the curve of my back.

What makes a perfect trash the dress session?
A beautiful location, beautiful light, a beautiful couple, and beautiful personalities!

Where do you get your inspiration from?
Life, in general…and magazines like W, Vogue, and Bazaar

Name 3 things you are thankful for…
1. My amazing dog, Polo Bear
2. Ben&Jerry’s Ice Cream
3. Pointy Shoes

Photography is …
My dream.  And I’m living my dream.

What is the best compliment you have received on your photography?
Nothing is sweeter to my ears when a couple turns to me after a photoshoot and tells me
they had so much fun.  Nothing beats being an instigator of fun!  :)

What was the last thing you bought?
Vegetarian chili

What’s the one thing you want to buy next?
The new 5D and a 50mm, 1.2 lens!

Film or digital?
Digital!

Recommend a book to read…
“A History of Love” by Nicole Krauss.  One of the BEST books I’ve ever read (and I read
ALOT!)…it’ll have you crying!  :)

What is one thing your clients should know about you?
I’m unafraid to let myself fall in love with my clients.

Any advice for brides trying to decide whether or not to trash the dress?
I could of had my dress locked in a air-tight box, but, instead, I have some rockin’ and
AMAZING pictures to display for future generations.  Just do it…hold on tight for a fun
ride…and enjoy every minute of loving life!

Here are a few Trash the Dress images aka Day After images.

Trash the Dress at the Salton Sea January 16, 2008

Filed under: California, California (Southern), California (south), Events, TTD, Trash Bash! — chrisaustinphotography @ 7:57 pm

This past Saturday, January 12, we got together for the first Trash the Dress group shoot of 2008, out in the Salton Sea. The event was a huge success, with over 35 photographers attending, 8 brides, makeup artists and other fantastic helpers. Our photographers came in from as far north as San Francisco, and east to Las Vegas and Arizona. We spent the entire day out there, shooting in some of the most unique locations you could ever find. If you ever have a chance to get out there, even just to see the place, it’s eerily interesting. Abandoned homes, motels, and other buildings dot the landscape, complementing the numerous burned out cars, half-buried buses and abandoned travel trailers. Everyone seemed to have an incredible time, and we’ve started to see some of the results these great photographers got! Be sure to go a google search for “salton sea trash the dress” to find more images, or visit http://www.chrisaustinphotography.com for links to photographers’ websites.

Thank you so much for everyone who made this day great! It was a lot of work to put it together, but I think it was a huge success, and I look forward to the next event!

Tampa Spotlight January 16, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — Jason Domingues @ 4:14 am

I tried to pick one image that was my favorite from the sessions and I cannot do it for this session. So I am going to pick two images to showcase. I want to say that there was a lot of great images that came out of this session. I just wanted to highlight a couple that really stood out for me.

The first one is from Jeff Newcum from Boston, Mass. I love everything about this image. From the red scarf to the way her body looks like it is moving with the scarf. Great job Jeff.

The second image is from Jake Morrow from Mississippi. What I like about this image is the flare coming through her arm.
